REVIEW FROM COWBOY MAGAZINE

It’s always a great pleasure to find a new CD that just knocks you out of the saddle.

Rooster Morris is a Texas Panhandle Cowboy who, in his spare time, plays a melodious fiddle and guitar and writes and sings outstanding cowboy songs. This album, Picnic Tree, is the freshest original cowboy music we’ve heard in a long time. One of the best producers in the business, Rich O’Brien, has put it all together in one outstanding collection of 15 songs, all but one of which (“Little Joe”) is original Morris music.

When you listen to this album for the first time, it will remind you of the great original songs Ian Tyson used to write. And Morris has a beautiful baritone voice that is also reminiscent of the great Canadian.

Having said that, this album is purely Morris’ own—the themes, perspective, the musical styles are refreshingly new, yet purely cowboy. There are love songs, blues songs, novelty songs, everything. Truly outstanding.

And one piece of advice to the men out there, buy this one for your favorite woman. She’ll love you for it. She, like you, will play it over and over until you just wear it out. It’s that good.
