Standardized testing and benchmarks are signs of the times in many schools. Test preparation is important but often addresses only a single learning style when students are asked to simply "sit and write."  The performances of the Axle Galench series are powerful experiential learning opportunities that help students believe that anyone can read, write, and create.

Through this presentation, Rooster Morris will explain how the use of character voices, music, and poetry engages and inspires children ages K-6th grade to read and write. He will demonstrate these techniques by performing original songs, with audience participation, and readings from his Axle Galench series as well as offering his personal experiences as evidence that anyone can read, write, and create.  As an aid to educators, each of Rooster’s books is accompanied by a curriculum guide and a TAKS/TEKS alignment guide for use in the classroom.

Rooster Morris is a nationally renowned performer with over 34 years of experience in performing, entertaining, inspiring, and educating audiences of all ages in several genres. He is the author of the Axle Galench children’s series, a Smithsonian-recorded fiddle player in the Canadian Breaks tradition, a motivational speaker, and the developer of a successful creative writing workshop for children. Rooster has performed at schools around the country for over 5 million children as well as in theater venues across the country. He and his wife Jody currently reside in Rockdale, Texas.
